Artist Lucy Curtis, a member of Bragg Creek Wild led the Banded Peak Art Walk project

Banded Peak School collaborated with artist Lucy Curtis, a member of Bragg Creek Wild to create a unique art project. The artwork was created by grade 7/8 students around the BCW foundational theme of 'Wildlife and people living in community.' It's a celebration of these lands so rich in diversity and wildlife treasures. Over 60 mini masterpieces are now easily accessible via a short meander from the Community Centre to E. Park Place. The work is beautifully presented within the trees. Each piece is painted on local wood canvasses by community member John Spurrel cut from trees felled as part of the berm construction in Bragg Creek. Learn more about his project on page 6 of the High Country News.

Genesis of the art project

Before the students could start painting, the canvas had to be prepared. Several local trees had to be cut to make way for the Bragg Creek berm. Some were salvaged and cut into pieces to make the canvas. Thank you John Spurrel for your time and expertise into preparing these most beautiful canvasses.
